Last week was my third week at the Bank of America Plaza farmers market. I'm learning a lot about the process and I'm having a blast doing it.
While being at the market has been my favorite part of selling Miss Maple baked goods so far, that's certainly not because its easy. Or lucrative. The actual baking of goods is just a fraction of the whole process as the days leading up to the market each week are full of figuring out market logistics, testing recipes, loading and hauling ingredients between kitchens and packing up a long checklist of booth necessities.
However, once I arrive at the market I quickly forget all of the stress leading up to it. It has been nice getting to know my fellow vendors as well as the regulars from the local businesses (we're talking downtown Los Angeles here, so there are plenty of those). It's like a little community of genuine and honest people who all want each other to thrive. Plus we all give each other tons of free stuff!! :)
This week I was battling a cold so I powered through the market and got straight to chilling hard and watching some good, old-fashioned television (The Cosby Show).
First things first, I needed some emergency sinus evacuation assistance and looked to my go-to, feel-good hot drink: Apple Cider Tea Lemonade. I added a few pinches of cayenne pepper to clear the pathways in my face and sat back with the Huxtables as the pressure slowly began to dissipate. I was then inspired to write a blog. But not for the reasons you might be thinking.
Sure, I wanted to help keep you healthy and happy during this cold season and share my cayenne cold-buster drink, but once I visited the Doctor (Dr. Heathcliff Huxtable, that is) a new inspiration began to take shape in the form of fashion...
If you're at all familiar with the greatest family TV show that has ever existed, then you know who Olivia Kendall is. Next time you think of buying a Peter Pan collar, sporting some Native American fringe or buying a bowtie at American Apparel, I suggest you give props to the one who paved the way.
I give you the incomparable Olivia Kendall and her fashionable entourage:
I know this post took a strange turn, but colds have always made me kind of loopy.
